Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month

The month of June goes purple in recognition of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. The Alzheimer’s Association has an article explaining ways to promote better brain health and help reduce the risk. There are an estimated 6.7 million Americans age 65 and older who are living with Alzheimer’s. There are early signs to share with a Physician if you are concerned you or someone you know may have Alzheimer’s, including:

1. Memory loss that disrupts daily life

2. Difficulty completing familiar tasks

3. New problems with words in speaking or writing

Sharing concerns with a doctor can be intimidating, but it is crucial for receiving optimal health care. Direct has a new workshop series starting June 20, with the first session covering Self-Advocacy in health care settings.
