Rural Home Access Program (RHAP)
For Adults Age 62+
For older adults, falling once doubles our chances of a repeat accident. Removing hazards at home can greatly reduce risk!
Our Rural Home Access Program (RHAP) helps low-income homeowners ages 62+ level up to livable, lifelong homes. RHAP offers a path to enhanced access, safety, and independence in rural Central and Southern Arizona:
Individualized evaluation to determine access needs, barriers, solutions, and grant eligibility*
Plan detailing recommendations to eliminate or mitigate barriers
Low-cost access and safety solutions, adaptations, and/or modifications
Direct Advocacy & Resource Center and Ability360, two of Arizona’s Centers for Independent Living (CILs), collaborate to offer this new program. With a proven, holistic approach, our centers expand our deeply rooted Home Access Programs (HAP) into a substantially rural region that spans eight counties in Central and Southeastern Arizona. OAHMP focuses on:
Identifying safety risks for low-income homeowners age 62+
Providing low-cost, high-impact interventions/solutions to help reduce the risk of falls and prevent unnecessary, costly institutionalization
Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), this unique program fosters:
Increased accessibility, functional ability, and safety
Greater overall independence
Aging in place – at home
