Lyssa has been deaf all her life. Growing up she found a sense of community whenever she engaged in activities surrounded by disabled peers. Being at camp was one of those activities. As a previous camper and counselor, she heard many stories of injustice her peers faced in their home communities. This sparked her passion for wanting to make a difference in the disabled community.
Lyssa graduated with a master’s in social work from Gallaudet University. She has experience in advocacy, case management, mental health, and outreach. She was excited to join Direct’s team because their services are cross-disability and the opportunity to expand her skills.
During her free time, you can find Lyssa enjoying her favorite foods, being with friends, or spending time with her fur baby, Suki.
