Home Access Advocate (Full-Time)

Direct Advocacy & Resource Center is a nonprofit advocacy and services organization for people with all types of disabilities. As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), we advocate disability voice, choice, and independence with a vision of universal access and justice.

We seek a highly skilled advocate to join and help expand our Home Access Program (HAP). The Home Access Advocate works with individuals with disabilities to determine solutions that will increase access, safety, and independence at home.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Perform eligibility screenings and assist participants with the application process

  • Conduct comprehensive home visits that include eligibility and functional assessments as well as site inspections

  • Support participants to identify their needs, establish related plans, and connect with other Direct programs/services and community resources as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of disabilities and home modifications/adaptations

  • Proven experience in collecting and managing participant documentation and organizing e-files (Note: Direct operates in a paperless environment)

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, MS Office, as well as database and assessment software

  • Excellent organization, time-management, interview, and communication skills

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Direct’s five-county service area in Southeastern Arizona.

Orientation & Mobility Skills Coach

Summary: Assist participants with disabilities in achieving their self-identified Independent Living (IL) goals, primarily focused on travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES (with or without reasonable accommodations)

  • Organize, plan, and provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to participants

  • Monitor participant progress and revise materials and instruction to meet individual participant needs

  • Maintain documentation consistent with the Center’s policies and procedures and funding requirements (including initial meeting, assessment, goal planning, information and referral, output/outcome measurements, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A clear understanding of, and passion for the Center's mission and vision

  • Certified in orientation and mobility service provision by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP), OR has a National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC) through National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB)

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Experience working with individuals who are blind and have low vision

  • Subject to criminal background check prior to employment (AZ level 1 fingerprint clearance required) and proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster

ADDITIONAL DESIRED BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Working Conditions

Work involves meeting with participants in the community, with strict COVID-19 precautions in place. Other job activities are primarily in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
