In Search of Some Summertime Fun?

From May 3rd through June 30th, summer Sessions with Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports begin! Contact Mia Hansen at 520-370-0588 or visit www.soazadaptivesports.org to register. SAAS coaches are standing by to help you find the right activities!

  • GOLF SAAS will offer semi-private golf lessons to those interested

  • Wheelchair Tennis - SAAS will arrange individual or small group wheelchair tennis lessons for those interested

  • Handcycling - SAAS has handcycles to loan. Stay fit over the summer! Get ready to join the Ascension Cycling Team (ACT) and ride in El Tour de Tucson on November 19th.

  • TERRAIN HOPPER - individual rentals/loans of our outdoor mobility device for hiking, birding, the beach, and desert adventures.

OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMS

JUNIORS ACTIVE IN WHEELCHAIR SPORTS (JAWS) combines sports, games, fitness, and fun for youth with physical disabilities. All kids of all abilities are welcome to roll with JAWS. Led by our SAAS adaptive sports coaches, kids will learn the basics of wheelchair sports, including basketball, rugby, softball, tennis, stick hockey, and other sports & games. JAWS builds strength, balance, coordination, confidence, and social skills while having fun. 

  • WHEN: Saturdays starting May 7th, 10am-12pm, and every Saturday through June 25th (8 weeks) 

  • WHERE: Donna Liggins Recreation Center 2160 N 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705 

  • COST: FREE - no charge to participate! 

  • AGE: 7 -14 years old (youth up to 19 who are still in high school are welcome, but JAWS is primarily for younger kids) 

  • SPORTS CHAIRS for loan - or bring your own! 

TEENS 14+ & ADULT WHEELCHAIR SPORTS & FITNESS  is ideal for teens 14+ and adults with previous wheelchair basketball & sports experience who want to scrimmage. Feeling competitive? Make sure to register for the 6:15pm-7:45pm session. Bring your own sports wheelchair or borrow one of ours.

  • WHEN: Tuesday & Thursdays starting May 3rd  

    • 5:00pm - 6:15pm WHEELCHAIR SPORTS & FITNESS (Beg/Int level) - build cardio, strength, coordination through sports skills & drills* 

    • 6:15pm - 7:45pm WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL (Int/Adv level) - for those with previous experience wanting to scrimmage & drill**

  • COST: FREE 

*Teens 14+ and adults who are just starting or want to get back in shape with wheelchair fitness & sports skills should start in the 5pm-6:15pm session - bring your own day chair/sports chair or borrow one of ours. Depending on your age and fitness/skill level, you can participate in one or all of these sessions.  

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CAMP JULY 22-25 

  • Boys & Girls ages 13-15 

  • 3 Sessions per day! 

  • Cost $250

CAMP WITH A RAMP

  • A camp for people living with spinal cord injury and paralysis. 

  • September 15-18, 2022 

  • Whispering Hope Ranch, Payson Arizona 

  • SAAS will be coordinating transportation for those needing rides! 

 

ARIZONA ADAPTIVE WATER SPORTS

  • Adaptive water sports including fishing, water skiing, boating, kayaking, wakeboarding 

  • Locations in central and northern Arizona: Bartlett Lake, Lake Havasu, and Lake Powell
